There are widely sought after autonomous roles for robots, such as spontaneity. The functions of animals including humans, motivate many control mechanisms for autonomous robots. Using predefined modules and control methodologies, roboticists frequently design robot behaviors, which makes them task-specific, restricting their versatility. Researchers propose an alternative approach based on machine learning for designing random […]

A team of scientists and students from the University of Sheffield has designed and built a specialist microscope, and shared the build instructions to help make this equipment available to many labs across the world. The microscope, called the smfBox, is capable of single-molecule measurements allowing scientists to look at one molecule at a time […]

LG’s wearable air purifier allows users to take in clean, filtered air with its Dual Fans and patented Respiratory Sensor. Meanwhile, the Respiratory Sensor detects the cycle and volume of the wearer’s breath and adjusts the dual three-speed fans accordingly. The fans automatically speed up to assist air intake and slow down to reduce resistance when exhaling to make breathing effortless.

Moving from one-algorithm to one-brain is one of the biggest open challenges in AI. A one-brain AI would still not be a true intelligence, only a better general-purpose AI—Legg’s multi-tool. But whether they’re shooting for AGI or not, researchers agree that today’s systems need to be made more general-purpose, and for those who do have AGI as the goal, a general-purpose AI is a necessary first step.

For search-and – rescue missions and environmental studies, robots can be amazing tools, but inevitably they need to return to a base to recharge their batteries and upload their knowledge. When your robot is an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) exploring deep ocean waters, that can be a challenge. A mobile docking system for AUVs has […]

It’s a strategy Quek said is fundamental to the company’s mission of inspiring “every person in the world to start selling and buying.” To help with that, Carousell now draws heavily on artificial intelligence (AI) to speed up the selling process. Image recognition, for instance, will automatically identify items and apply the appropriate categories and tags. Ultimately, Carousell wants to reduce listing times from 30 seconds to just three. “We’re doing a lot of things around AI,” said Quek. “We want to make selling even simpler, so today you can already take a photo, your category will be suggested, your title will be suggested, your price will be suggested.”

Thanks to novel computational architectures that rapidly process large volumes of complex data, artificial intelligence is celebrated for its ability to solve problems that humans can not. As a consequence, AI techniques are applicable to some of the most challenging problems in science and culture, such as machine learning , computer vision, and neural networks. […]
